The song that I have chosen for our paper is " No woman, no cry," by Bob Marley. If you do not know Bob Marley is a singer who was in the band "The Wailers." His music is known as reggae which is very laid back. I picked this song because it reminds me of struggles you have to over come to get to where you want to go. That's why I feel like it relates to the story "A long way gone." Ishmael had to over come obstacles to get to where he is now. That could be from leaving your family, to knowing your life is in jeopardy that you have to act fast, no matter what the cost is.
I am not for sure what my thesis statement is going to be or how I am going to make all this information turn into 4 pages. After reading the pages for Thursday I do have some ideas on how to write a proper paper and how to organize the information from the notes that I have been taking for the song, writer, and story. I have a feeling I will probably be living at the writing center for a while before we turn in our drafts and final papers.

I am so jealous you chose Bob Marley! I love his music but actually have never heard the song you picked so i am excited to see how your paper turns out. His songs are so easy to analyze and it should be good to compare it with Ishmael Beah's life. Ishmael faced tons of obstacles and struggles throughout his life, but overcame them. From what you described, it sounds like this song is going to work out really well. Good luck and after you write it i want to hear all about it!
ReplyDeleteI think your deffinatly off to a good start by choosing that song. Its really good that you have already related it to "A Long Way Gone" in a very reasonable way. All you really have to worry about is dragging it out (hah) and analyzing your song which is the easier part.
ReplyDeleteI personally just chose a song that has a really cool meaning but may not relate to the story really. It kinda can include what happens in the story but it doesnt necessarily compare to the music in the story. But we'll see i guess. Sorry i chose your blog as a vehicle for my rambling
